Helping through Lyford Cay International School

At Lyford Cay International School we believe that students need educational experiences beyond the core academic program which teach them how to help others contribute to the well being of the community.

To achieve this our Service Learning program now consists of the Creating a Responsible Community Program, the Outreach Program, the House Program and a variety of Co-curriculum Programs have been established at Lyford Cay International School to provide students with a range of personal engagement opportunities. The program fulfills requirements of all three IB programs, the PYP gives to all community service activity as required in the International Baccalaureate Program. Students experience this aspect of student life and learning through both on and off campus activity. The Outreach program is focused on bringing students to locations around Nassau (New Providence island) and periodically to other Bahamian islands. Our students have helped both in and outside of the Bahamas all over the Off campus component consists campus parts of the IB programs around several anchor programs; the PYP Action Component (where young children mainly do activities on campus and in their homes), the MYP Community & Service Program and the DP CAS Program (Creativity, Service Action), where students do activities both on and off campus.

Service Learning is not only about directly helping others but also means participating in and contributing to the community in areas like school band and theatrical productions.

Helping others is important both on campus and off campus - and our focus is always to remind our students of their capabilities outside of just school-work.
